The LPI was developed by management consultants Kouzes and Posner, who spent over 20 years researching the behaviors of ordinary people who demonstrated extraordinary leadership practices in the workplace. Using a database of over 60,000 constituents from four continents, they published The Leadership Challenge Book, videos and the LPI assessment tool. Comprised of five Leadership Practices and thirty Leadership Behaviors, the LPI offers self-assessment results as well as 360° feedback. The LPI is very useful for positional and aspiring leaders, team leads and community service applications. The interpretation of the LPI is very comprehensive and offers practical activities for developing leadership skills. The LPI assessment can be completed online or manually, and coaching for interpretation is recommended.
